Simon was the past chair of the Canadian Bar Association (Immigration Law subsection) for northern Alberta. Simon was also a sessional instructor of immigration law at the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta.
Simon was invited as a guest speaker numerous times by the Canadian Bar Association to speak on different immigration and refugee law topics in meetings with immigration and refugee lawyers and administrative law lawyers. At the request of the Federal Court Simon has also argued a judicial review of a refugee claim refusal at the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta for
education purpose.
